SULUMANI Chimbetu has pulled the plug on a planned UK tour after accusing the promoters of breaching terms of their contract.

SULUMANI Chimbetu has pulled the plug on a planned UK tour after accusing the promoters of breaching terms of their contract.
In a case of once bitten, twice shy, Chimbetu moved to avoid a repeat of his last UK tour when a promoter abandoned his band in the middle of the tour and failed to pay performance fees.
Chimbetu’s latest tour was due for to get underway on April 6, but the singer says he had given the promoter a deadline of March 6 to pay a deposit in order for him to commit to the tour.
“The situation has become tricky and we cannot keep on promising our fans in the UK we will perform when we seriously doubt anything can materialise,” he told NewsDay.
The singer’s lawyer Stephen Chibune said: “A clauses in the contract stipulates that a certain payment was supposed to be made a month before the tour commenced and already that has been breached.
“They wanted to pay on March 27, which is just about a week before the tour when the artist will not have time to take other bookings.”
Promoter Brian Bako blamed “reasons beyond my control” in a brief statement, then added: “There is no further information, but we will try to host Sulu later in the year.”
In April last year, Chimbetu abruptly called time on his three-week UK tour after the first week when the promoter abandoned him and his group.
